Sowore, Four Others Remanded in Kuje Prison – FG

The court has remanded human rights activist and Sahara Reporters Publisher Omoyele Sowore and his accomplices, Juwon Sanyaolu, Damilare Adenola, Peter and Kimrere in the Kuje district prison pending the hearing of their bail application on the 5th of January, 2021.

The judge, Taye Maibel, in her ruling said all the charges are bailable, except if the defendants are deemed likely to evade trial or commit the same offence. She asked that their formal bail application be brought before her at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday.

The Federal Government arraigned Sowore and four others at the Magistrate Court in Wuse Zone 2, Abuja, on Monday.

They were arrested by the police for leading a protest against bad governance on New Year’s Eve in the FCT.

The Federal Government has charged them on grounds of criminal conspiracy, unlawful assembly, and attempting to incite others. However, they all pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The Prosecution, alleged that the defendants were arrested on New Year eve with placards calling for a violent revolution against The President.

Sowore tweeted.

“We are currently at the Magistrate court n Wuse Zone 2 with a broken nose. Police want us sent to prison after five days in cruel detention.

“Just rest assured we are solid and undaunted until full liberation is attained! # RevolutionNow.”

He had also previously sent out a series of tweets urging Nigerians to join him on a protest against the regime of the President Muhammadu Buhari administration before his arrest.

He had tweeted,
