On Sunday the 3rd of January 2021, a gunfight between the police and some armed robbers left some of the criminals dead and others injured at Ughelli in the Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State.
The police public relation officer in the state confirmed that the criminals were shot dead by the police assigned to the A Division Ughelli.
“We received a distress call from the public that a gang of three armed robbers were operating within Ughelli, along the market road and we swung into action immediately. On sighting the police, the robbers opened fire on the police, and we immediately returned fire to them. With our more superior power, two of them were gunned down, and one escaped with bullet wounds.”
Few weeks ago, Sources in Ughelli said that the town had recently been going through a series of robberies and other violent crimes. Before this incident a five-person gang of armed robbers was apprehended after robbing a POS operator at the Ughelli South Local Government Area of the state, two were burnt alive and three escaped.
A police source also said two locally made pistols and many live cartridges, one expanded cartridge and one Golf car with registration number AJ 220 EFR were retrieved from the suspects.
