Buhari approves posting of Envoys, releases list

President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the deployment of a former Minister of State for Defence, Demola Serikri, to Spain as Nigeria’s Ambassador, and a former Minister of Mines and Steel, Sarafat Ishola, to the United Kingdom as the High Commissioner.

The Editor-in Chief of The Guardian Newspaper, Debo Adesina, will serve as Nigeria’s Ambassador to Togo.

The serving Nigerian Ambassador to Ireland, Uzoma Emenike, was posted as Ambassador to the United States of America, while M.I. Bashir will serve as deputy ambassador.

According to the President’s list, 11 ambassadors were re-appointed while 8 were retained in their current countries of posting and 3 others redeployed.

Based on the confirmed list from the Senate, a total of 52 non-career envoys and 43 career ambassadors have been posted out by the president.

The 8 ambassadors to retain their positions include:  Mohammed Rimi (United Arab Emirates), Jidda Baba (China), Gani Bura (Lebanon), Yusuf Tuggar (Germany), Baba Madugu (Switzerland) and Deborah Illiya (Congo).

While Ambassador Tijani Muhammmad-Bande will retain his position as the Permanent Representative to the United Nations, New York, and Adeyinka Asekun will remain the High Commissioner to Canada.

The current Ambassador to France, Modupe, Irele, is to be redeployed to Hungary while the the current Ambassador to Hungary, Eniola Ajayi, is to be redeployed to the Netherlands.

For non-career diplomats, Ijeoma Chineyerem will resume as the Ambassador to Ireland, Oma Djebah to Thailand, Abdulahi Shehu to Russia, Haruna Manta to South Africa, Kayode Laro to France, Paul Adikwu to The Vatican, Abubakar Moriki to Japan, Opunimi Akinkugbe to Greece, Ali Magashi to South Korea, M.O. Abam to Italy, N.A. Kolo to Israel, A. Sule to India, G.Y. Hamza to Ghana, A.N. Madubike to Australia and O.C Onowu to Belgium.
