3 dead, 24 injured as earthquake rocks Indonesia

The National Disaster Management Agency says 3 people have been killed while 24 others have been injured after a 6.2-magnitude quake rocked Indonesia’s West Sulawesi province early on Friday.

Raditya Jati, spokesman for the agency, revealed that the incident has left over 2,000 residents in Mamuju city and Majene district flee from home and seek shelters at safer places.

The agency said a total of at least 62 houses, a health care clinic, a military office, 3 hotels, a parliamentary building, and Governor’s office were destroyed in the quake.

The disaster agency, search and rescue office said the task of evacuating victims and assessing the depth of the quake was ongoing.
