21 out of 22 passengers dead in Bauchi road accident – FRSC

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Bauchi state Command, has confirmed that 21 out of the 22 passengers involved in a road accident in the state have died.

The deaths were confirmed by the Bauchi State Sector Commander of the FRSC, Yusuf Abdullahi.

The road accident reportedly occurred on Sunday morning, when a Toyota Hummer bus belonging to Borno Express, enroute Maiduguri from Jos, and a VW Golf 3 wagon coming from Misau heading to Bauchi had a head-on collision. The Toyota Hummer Bus carried 14 passengers, while the VW Golf 3 wagon carried 8 passengers, including 2 female children, making a total of 22 passengers.

Reports say initially 2 victims survived with fatal injuries, and were receiving treatment at the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa Teaching Hospital (ATBU-TH), Bauchi.

While speaking with the News Agency of Nigeria on Thursday, the FRSC Commander disclosed that one out of the only two survivors later died on Monday, while receiving treatment.

He said, “Some of the victims, who lost their lives sustained degrees of injuries and died immediately, while others were burnt beyond recognition.

“A total number of people who lost their lives in the accident is now 21. 20 died on the spot and one out of the only two survivors also died on Monday, while receiving treatment.”

Abdullahi said the bodies of all the deceased had been deposited at the ATBU-TH so their relations can come and claim their bodies at the hospital.

The manifest of the victims released by the FRSC is as follows; Okoh Moses with next of kin number as 08062759179, Ishaq Hamzar, next of kin number: 07061555387, Success Dan Yarima with 08065696628 as next of kin number, Babangida Hassan with 08030633003.

“Others include Palmala Haji with 08037313867, Christiana Pam, next of kin number: 09061636896, Glory Jaka with next of kin number: 08035687986 and Yusuf Nadabo, 07039795511.

“We will continue to carry out public enlightenment campaigns in motor parks, market squares and roads, on the dangers and causes of road accidents.”
