IGP orders tight security nationwide for yuletide season.

The Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Adamu has ordered strict security protocols and high proactive visibility patrols across all states in the country ahead of the Christmas and New Year celebrations.

The IGP disclosed this in a statement on Wednesday through the spokesperson of the Nigerian Police Force Public Relations Officer, Commissioner of Police, Frank Mba explaining the order is to ensure a peaceful celebration.

A directive was given to strategic officers to ensure sufficient deployment of both human and material assets of the police particularly in major highways, airports, railway stations, recreational centres, motor parks, places of worship, financial institutions, etc.

He further directed all Zonal Assistant Inspectors General of Police (AIGs) and state police Commissioners to strengthen their strategies on crime prevention in their respective zones to ensure a crisis-free holiday season.

Adamu also warned against any act bordering on misconducts, unprofessionalism, including extortion and intimidation of road users. Explaining failure to follow standard operating procedures would be investigated and decisively punished.

He advised Nigerians to take precautionary measures to reduce exposure to security risks and the ravaging COVID-19 during the Christmas and New year festivities.

He extended his appreciation to all Nigerians for their support to the Police and other security agencies in the fight against crimes in the country, promising an improved police service delivery and security generally in the incoming year, 2021.
