Fleeing Abdulrasheed Maina arrested in Niger Republic

Nigerian newspaper Punch is reporting that Abdulrasheed Maina, former chairman of the defunct Pension Reform Task Team (PRTT), has been arrested by authorities in the Niger Republic.

According to the newspaper, Maina was arrested on Monday evening following request for assistance by the Nigerian authorities.

Maina is being prosecuted by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for alleged money laundering to the tune of N2 billion.

However, the former PRTT chairman jumped bail which prompted Okon Abang, a judge of the federal high court in Abuja, to order the arrest of Ali Ndume, senator representing Borno south. The senator stood surety for Maina when the court granted him bail. The senator has however regained his freedom.

There has been no official confirmation from the authorities in Abuja on whether Maina was arrested or not.
