Over 38 inmates have reportedly escaped from the Enugu state police division on Sunday night. This has since created a state of tension within residents in the community.
The criminals were arrested and remanded in police custody by the Magistrate Court during the COVID19 lockdown in the state for committing several crimes.
The felons, approximating between 38 and 40 broke out from the police cells at the State Criminal Investigation Department, inside the State Police Headquarters.
Findings indicate the offenders were kept in the police custody because of the lack of cell facilities at the Nigerian Correctional Service, Enugu.
The state police command is yet to make any further statements on this development.
