Edo state governor, Godwin Obaseki wants policemen to return to their duty posts as the storm generated by the #ENDSARS protests begin to settle

The Edo State governor, Godwin Obaseki has appealed to police officers under the Edo State Police Command to return to their duty posts and continue the task of securing life and property.

Following the crisis that trailed the #ENDSARS protests against police brutality, officers reportedly left their duty posts across the state.

During the protests which took place across the country for much of October, several police stations were burnt down with many police officer either allegedly killed or injured.  There were jail breaks across two correctional facilities in the state with hundreds of inmates reportedly escaping.

Speaking during a visit to Johnson Kokumo, the Edo state police commissioner in Benin the governor promised that the government would take care of the medical bills of all those injured during the protests in the state.

According to Obaseki, “Edo state government will now proceed immediately to begin to rebuild your destroyed buildings. We already ordered some patrol vehicles and hope it will be delivered in the next few weeks. We will be responsible for the hospital bills of officers injured in the last few weeks.

“Every inmate that escaped from our correctional centers will be arrested. Hoodlums burnt the centers thinking they have destroyed particulars of escapees by they don’t know that their biometrics were not within the centers.”

Kokumo in his response thanked the governor for his support and revealed that the Command so far has arrested 126 suspected criminals over the last few weeks. The commissioner further disclosed that 10 of the arrested suspects were amongst the inmates who escaped from the Correctional facilities.
