Obaseki: We’ll bury Oshiomhole politically

Edo state governor, Godwin Obaseki, says he will bury the political career of Adams Oshiomhole, former national chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), in the forthcoming election.

The governor spoke during the governorship election campaign of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Oredo local government area of the state on Saturday. He said the September 19 election is a contest with Oshiomhole.

Obaseki who is the candidate of the PDP in the election, said Oshiomhole, his predecessor and former governor of the state, will be dealt with during the election because he doesn’t respect people of the state.

“As a sitting governor, Oshiomhole decides to pick who will represent me in my house of assembly. Can you imagine the insult? That was where this fight started,” the governor said.

“Because he believes, in his own mind, that Benin people are like chickens. When you throw corn, they will run after the corn.

“This election is a contest with Oshiomhole. We have dealt with him at the national level, we will bury him politically in this election; because he has no regard for Benin people, he has no regard for us in Oredo, and we will show him that he is nothing.”

Oshiomhole is backing Osagie Ize-Iyamu, candidate of the APC, in the election.

The September 19 election promises to be a rematch of the 2016 contest. However, the gladiators who did battle in 2016 have since changed camps. While Obaseki was the APC candidate in the 2016 race, he will however fly the flag of  the PDP in the election billed to take place in a fortnight while his 2016 rival would replace him on the ballot as the APC candidate
