Ondo SSG, Ifedayo Abegunde, Resigns His Appointment

Ifedayo Abegunde, the Secretary to the Ondo State Government, has resigned his appointment from the Rotimi Akeredolu government. Abegunde confirmed his resignation in a telephone interview withe media.

He cited personal reasons for his resignation and thanked governor Akeredolu for the opportunity to serve the state.

It is unclear if he would also quit the ruling All Progressives Congress in the state.

The governor and Abegunde had been at loggerhead for awhile over issues surrounding the second term ambition of the governor forcing him to distance himself from series of government activities in the past few weeks.

Agboola Ajayi, the state’s deputy governor left the APC for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) some weeks ago and was recently screened to contest for the PDP’s guber primary.

On Sunday, Ajayi asked Akeredolu to hand over to him having tested positive for coronavirus. It is unlikely the governor would heed the call considering his strained relationship with his deputy.
