Domestic Flights To Resume in Abuja, Lagos on July 8

Nigeria’s Minister of Aviation, Hadi Sirika has announced that domestic flight operations will resume at the Abuja and Lagos airports on July 8, 2020. He made the announcement on Wednesday evening on his personal Twitter handle.

The Minister said airports in Port Harcourt, Kano, Maiduguri and Owerri would resume on July 11, 2020, while other airports in the country would resume on July 15, 2020.

Sirika tweeted; “I am glad to announce that Abuja and Lagos airports will resume domestic operations on July 8, 2020. Kano, Port Harcourt, Owerri and Maiduguri are to resume on the 11th. Other airports will resume on the 15th. Date for international flights to be announced in due course”.

This is coming three months after the Federal Government announced the suspension of both local and international flight operations, as part of the measures to contain the spread of the coronavirus pandemic in the country.

The resumption date for domestic flights in Nigeria was initially scheduled for June 21, 2020 but was suspended by the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) because the aviation sector was not ready for resumption.

However, last week, the Federal Government had announced plans to carry out a test run of the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja and the Murtala Mohammed Airport in Lagos last Saturday.

The test run of the facilities in both airports was to determine their readiness for the resumption of domestic operations.
