Two Cousins Remanded in Prison For Rape, Murder

Onigbanjo told the court that the defendants whilst armed with a knife and dagger had dispossessed their victims (Gildas Tohouo –Tohouo and Bernadette Tohouo- Tohouo) of several items including foreign currencies, mobile phones, exotic bottles of wine, wedding and engagement rings.

A high court in Igbosere area of Lagos presided over by Justice Modupe Nico- Clay has given an order remanding Olamilekan Oke and Akande Adeyinka at the at the Ikoyi correctional centre (Ikoyi Prisons) for their alleged involvement in the rape and murder of Bernadette Tohouo- Tohouo, the wife of Gildas Tohouo-Tohouo, the MD of Maersk Nigeria Limited.

Oke and Adeyinka, residents of 22 Elepe street, Ikorodu and 12 Odunlami Street Shomolu respectively are cousins who are currently facing multiple criminal charges including conspiracy, murder, attempted murder, unlawful assault, robbery, armed robbery and rape.

The prosecution counsel led by Moyosore Onigbanjo (SAN) told the court that the defendants conspired to commit the alleged offences on December 8, 2019, disclosing that the incident took place at about 7:30pm, at flat 7A, No 1, Lugard Avenue Ikoyi Lagos.

According to the counsel, “Olamileka (Goke ) Oke, on December 8, 2019, at about 7: 30 pm, unlawfully had sexual intercourse with one Bernadetta Tohouo- Tohouo aged 44”.

The prosecutor further told the court that the defendants unlawfully killed the said Bernadetta Tohouo- Tohouo by suffocating her to death with a small pillow.

The court was informed that the duo attempted to unlawfully kill Gildas Tohouo-Tohouo, by stabbing him severally on the neck, head and back with a knife and dagger. He said that the defendants unlawfully assaulted Gildas Tohouo-Tohouo and caused him harm by beating him severally with hammer on his head.

Onigbanjo told the court that the defendants whilst armed with a knife and dagger had dispossessed their victims (Gildas Tohouo –Tohouo and Bernadette Tohouo- Tohouo) of several items including foreign currencies, mobile phones, exotic bottles of wine, wedding and engagement rings.

The prosecution team announced to the court that the suspects raped, the victim, before killing her.

According to Onigbanjo, the offences committed are contrary to and punishable under Sections 233, 230, 173, 299, 297 (2) (a) 411, of the criminal laws of Lagos state of Nigeria 2015.

The accused persons pleaded not guilty to the charges preferred against them.

The case was adjourned to June 30 while the suspects would remain in prison custody.
