NCAA Postpones Airport Reopening Date

The Federal government announced that the reopening of the airports was not feasible for June 21st. The Ministry of Aviation and the NCAA clarified that a lot more preparation had to go into the reopening of the airports apart from the readiness of the airlines.

Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority has announced airports and airlines are not fully ready to resume operations. It was reported that airlines are 70% ready while domestic airports are 57.83% ready and air navigation service providers are 80% ready for resumption.

After evaluation from the NCAA, the airlines considered 70% ready include Aero Contractor, Air Peace, Arik Air, Azman Air, Dana airlines, Ibom air, Max Air and Overland Airways Limited.

The NCAA evaluated the airlines with a checklist including restart plan, public health corridor concept, operational safety, personnel licensing and aircraft operations, aviation security, safety management system amongst others.

The minster of Aviation,HadiSiriki stated that despite pressures coming from all quarters the aviation sector is not ready to reopen and to do so would be disastrous to all. No definite date was given for the reopening, only that the go-ahead would be given when the aviation authority is fully ready.
