Many Killed as Boko Haram Invade Borno Community

More than 30, 000 Nigerians are estimated to have died from violence associated with the terror group’s activities while millions have fled their homes to live as refugees in IDP camps.

According to media reports, not less than 70 persons were killed when men believed to be Boko Haram operatives attacked communities in Gubio Local Government Area of Borno State between Tuesday and the early hours of Wednesday. The residents of the community, mostly farmers have battled Boko Haram elements for several years running.  The gunmen were said to have shot indiscriminately, killing humans and animals at will. The terrorists also rustled cattle in large numbers.

Months before now, the villagers had overpowered some members of the terrorist gang killing two of them while the rest escaped with various degrees of injuries. This recent attacks by the terrorists, residents believe was in retaliation for the killing of their men in April.

The villagers were also said to have resisted attempts by Boko Haram operatives to extort them by way of illegal taxes and levies. This resistance did not go down well with the terrorists who are used to having their way. The North East region of the country has been under constant bombardment in the last 11 years since members of the Boko Haram terrorist group launched operations in the region.
