The Lagos State Government has revealed its plans to set up and operate a radio station for the sole aim of educating pupils in the state, just like the Lagos Traffic Radio Station built by the administration former Governor of Lagos state, Babatunde Fashola, which is solely dedicated to traffic and vehicular issues.
The declaration was made on Monday by the state Commissioner for Education, Mrs. Folasade Adefisayo, during the official presentation of 5,000 transistor radios by Committee of Wives of Lagos State Officials, in partnership with the Office of the First Lady of Lagos state, Dr. Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu.
The proposed radio station would serve as a sustainable channel for students to access educational contents in view of the challenges posed by the coronavirus pandemic.
Adefisayo explained that the radios are to be distributed to pupils and students across the state, especially inaccessible areas, to ensure access to programs already dedicated to education on some radio stations.
She said this measure “Is part of efforts to ensure that no child is left behind in the access to quality education in Lagos State on account of Corona Virus and other challenges which have brought about temporary closure of schools”.
According to her, this is in line with the agenda of Governor Sanwo-Olu –led administration in the state.
