The Director-General of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, has announced that the body of a 19-year-old identified as Aishat has been recovered from the Onilegogoro canal in Surulere, Lagos State.
After the heavy downpour in the state on Monday, various areas suffered from flood which injured and displaced many.
Aishat was said to have been swept into the canal by the current while trying to find her way across the flood. Residents and witnesses rushed to Aishat’s aid but all attempts to rescue her failed as the strong current pushed her down the canal.
After the incident was reported, Oke-Osanyintolu, revealed that his men swung into action to rescue the young girl.
However, it was reported the next day that the victim’s remains were recovered around the Onilegogoro canal in Surulere that morning. She was subsequently buried near the canal.
