Bala Ciroma, FCT Police Commissioner, Two Others Tipped To Replace Magu As EFCC Boss

Others recommended by Malami are Mohammed Sani Usman, retired Deputy Inspector-General of Police from Kebbi state and Diseye Nsirim-Poweigba, a retired police commissioner in Niger State. Ciroma is from Bauchi State.

According to THEWILL, Abubakar Malami, the country’s attorney general and minister of justice has recommended EFCC’s former head of operations and current Commissioner for Police in the FCT, Bala Ciroma and two others to replace acting chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ibrahim Magu who he accused in a memo to the president of insubordination and diversion of recovered loot.

Others recommended by Malami are Mohammed Sani Usman, retired Deputy Inspector-General of Police from Kebbi state and Diseye Nsirim-Poweigba, a retired police commissioner in Niger State. Ciroma is from Bauchi State.

Magu was appointed to head the EFCC in acting capacity on November 9, 2015. On two occasions, the 8th senate led by Abubakar Bukola Saraki refused to honour the president’s request seeking the confirmation of Magu as the substantive chair of the anti-graft agency relying on a petition against the nominee by the DSS who insisted that Magu was unfit to head the EFCC since he lived in a N40 million purchased by a retired military officer under investigation by the Commission.

The presidency, according to THEWILL, is seriously considering either the FCT Police Commissioner or the retired DIG, Mohammed Sani Usman who was forced to retire from the police last year following the appointment of AIG Muhammed Abubakar Adamu as the IG of Police.

The EFCC had lately been accused of turning a blind eye to several acts of corruption by chieftains of the ruling party while actively fighting opposition figures suspected of being involved in fraud.
