NDDC Shuts Down over COVID-19 Fears

The Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) has shut down its operations for two weeks, a few hours after the death of its Executive Director of Finance and Administration Ibanga Bassey Etang.

A memo from the management of NDDC stated that the shut down of businesses at its headquarters begins from today (Thursday) 28th of May, 2020.

Roots TV Nigeria gathered that this directive came to be following the report that the late Etang died from COVID-19 disease.

In the last paragraph of the memo, the staff were also told to quarantine for two weeks to know their fate until further directives from the NDDC either to resume work or remain at home.

The memo reads:

“I am directed to inform all staff that Management has approved that the Commission be shut down for Two Weeks from today 28th May. 2020.

“Members of staff are to ensure that all electrical appliances in their offices are switched off before leaving the premises.

“The Head Security is by this memo directed to work out modalities to ensure the safety and security of the Commission while Director Administration is requested to fumigate and decontaminate the entire offices and premises in the Headquarters during period.

“Meanwhile staff are enjoined to go into self-isolation for two weeks as they await further directive from Management.” the memo read.

RootstvNigeria gathered that the late Director might have died from food poisoning.

The Commission is presently embroiled in many crises as its Interim Board is at loggerhead with the National Assembly over alleged financial misappropriation.
