85-year-old former Director-General of the Imo Broadcasting Corporation (IBC), Theophilus Okere has reportedly stabbed his wife to death at Imerinwe community in Ngor-Okpala Local Government Area of Imo state.
Reports say the former DG had been suffering from a condition associated with memory decline and his family had been managing it for some time. The source who spoke to News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) said; “Okere has been down with dementia and the family has been managing the problem. Even today that he stabbed his wife to death when we asked why he did it, he responded that his wife was still sleeping”,
“The other Sunday, Okere went to church and said that his car was missing when in fact his car was parked in his compound”.
Okere’s wife was a retiree of the Imo State Polytechnic, Umuagwo, and was 77 years old before her demise. The couple had been together for over 50 years.
The incident was confirmed by the Imo State Police Command spokesman, Mr Orlando Ikeowu who said the Police had begun an investigation into the case.
