COVID-19: Buhari Wont Address Nigerians Today

The Presidency has debunked the report that President Muhammadu Buhari will be addressing Nigerians on issues around COVID-19 later today.

Dr Aliyu Sani who is the national coordinator of the Presidential Task Force (PTF) on COVID-was reported to had disclosed of the plan by the President to address Nigerians later today (18/05/2020).

However, the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, said no Presidential address on COVID-19 was scheduled for today adding that the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19 led by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha, would update the nation during its briefings.

“No presidential broadcast on COVID-19 updates today.

“None was planned. Rather, the Presidential Task Force will during its usual media briefings bring the nation up to speed on the next steps,” he tweeted.

President Buhari had on Sunday met with the COVID-19 Presidential Task Force team at his residence for their weekly briefing.

Among those present were Boss Mustapha; Secretary to the Government of the Federation and head of the Task Force. The Health Minister, national coordinator of the Task Force and the NCDC boss were all in attendance.

Since the outbreak of the COVID-19 virus in Nigeria in February, the country has recorded 5,959 cases so far with 182 deaths.
