Chief of Staff: Gambari Denies Knowledge of His Appointment as ‘Cabal’ Fight Dirty

Professor Ibrahim Gambari, a former Under Secretary-General of the United Nations has denied knowledge of his appointment as the new Chief of Staff to President Muhammadu Buhari.

Although his appointment was widely reported, the Presidency has neither confirmed nor denied the report as at the time of filing the report.

An associate of the one-time minister of External Affairs, who spoke under the condition of anonymity, told RootstvNigeria that Professor Gambari has no knowledge of his appointment as the new Chief-of-Staff.

It was also gathered that one of the factions battling to have the firm control of the Presidency leaked the information to the media prematurely so as to compel the President to do their bidding in having their prefered choice as the new Chief-of-Staff.

“Different factions within the Presidency are fighting to have full control and one of them is pushing for the appointment of Gambari as the next Chief-of-Staff the President. So it was believed that the smart thing to do is to leak his name to the media ahead of time so as to compel the President to do their bidding.” a highly placed Presidency source told RootstvNigeria.

The next 24hrs promises to be interesting as Nigerians await the President’s next move.

The 75-year old Gambari had held several leadership positions within and outside Nigeria. He was one-time Chairman of the United Nations Special Committee Against Apartheid (1990-1994), he had also served as the Head of the United Nations Department of Political Affairs between 2005 and 2007.
