Lagos Begins House to House Search for COVID-19 Carriers

Lagos State, the epicentre of Coronavirus cases has started house to house search for identification of possible carriers of COVID-19 in the State.

As at last count, 214 out of 373 cases recorded in Nigeria were from Lagos and the State Government has said about 118,000 households have been reached in one week in the house to house search.

The Lagos State Commissioner for Health, Akin Abayomi, at a briefing said about 119 people have been identified with coronavirus symptoms through the house-to-house active case search embarked upon by the state.

The ‘Community Active Case Search’ was launched by the state government on April 6 and is to span for two weeks in the first instance.

The Commissioner, while explaining the modalities for the exercise, said health workers would move from house to house in pairs to administer electronic questionnaires to citizens, the questionnaires will border on COVID-19 symptoms adding that the exercise started with high-risk areas.

FG Sacks Contractors of CCT

The Federal Government has terminated the contract of two Payment Service Providers (PSPs) hired to commence the Conditional Cash Transfer to beneficiaries in four states of the federation.

The Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, Sadiya Umar Farouq, said the immediate termination of the contract would be with the newly launched World Bank procurement guidelines to ensure that payments commence in the affected states on or before April 28, 2020.

The affected states are: Bayelsa, Akwa Ibom, Abia and Zamfara.

“The failure of any payment service providers to meet their contractual agreement is unacceptable. The federal government through the Ministry cannot allow contractors to derail the immediate Conditional cash transfers to the poor and the vulnerable,” she said.

Kano Orders 7-Day Lockdown

The Kano State Government has ordered a 7-day lockdown in the State as following the confirmation of 1 new case in the State.

The state, with over 21 million population confirmed two new cases of COVID-19 on Tuesday bringing the total number to four.

The State Governor, Abdullahi Ganduje told journalists the latest confirmed case came as a result of the first batch of 18 persons traced to have had contacts with the index case, adding that when their blood samples were subjected to laboratory test, 17 came out negative, while one was found to be positive.
