Ondo State Governor, Rotimi Akeredolu has confirmed that one of the suspected killers of Funke Olakunrin, Pa Fasoranti’s daughter, has tested positive for Coronavirus (COVID-19).
Akerodolu, in a series of tweets on Sunday confirmed that the State had recorded two new cases and one of them happened to be a suspect apprehended over the killing of Funke Olakunrin in July 2019.
“We have confirmed two other cases in Ondo state. One of the cases involves one of the recently arraigned suspects in the murder of Mrs Funke Olakunrin, Pa Fasoranti’s Daughter.”
The Governor added that the Commissioner of police in State “has been informed and the line tracing of police officers and others in the SARs facility where he was kept has started and their specimens are being collected.”

“The suspect has been isolated from others and will be moved to the IDH for treatment. The commissioner of police has assured the state that there will be adequate security around the IDH premises to prevent his escape and while on treatment, he will be manacled to the bed,” he wrote.
Nigeria, at the moment, has recorded 1,182 cases of COVID-19 in 27 states and the FCT.
Kano Death Toll Spike
There has been apprehension in Kano, Nigeria’s most populous state as the death toll from Coronavirus and other strange ailments have been on the rise.
Presently, 77 persons have been confirmed for COVID-19 in the State according to the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) record, but the unofficial record has put the death toll to over 600 in the space of one week.

A Twitter User, Zainab Mahmoud, disclosed that she received more than 100 death reports in her three-day investigation.
Our aim was to collect objective data and present it to the authorities, encourage private sector to help, call on international organizations to aid and increase awareness amongst Kano people about the imminent threat.

Kano may well be the epicenter of COVID19 deaths in the world. The combination of poverty, illiteracy, densely populated state, non existent health care and poor leadership is exactly the recipe for disaster amidst this pandemic.

Also On Sunday, the deaths of 15 high profile persons were reported in the State.
The prominent persons, who died in Kano on Saturday alone are Prof Ibrahim Ayagi, Dr Musa Umar Gwarzo, Alhaji Dahiru Rabiu (former Grand Khadi), Musa Tijjani (ex-Editor of Triumph Newspaper) and Adamu Isyaku Dal, who was a former Executive Secretary of the State Universal Basic Education Board.
Others are Alhaji Salisu Lado, Hajiya Shamsiyya Mustapha, Hajiyaj Nene Umma, Alhaji Garba Sarki Fagge, Dr Nasiru Maikano Bichi, Secretary Student Affairs, North-West University, Prof Aliyu Umar Dikko of Physiology Department, Bayero University Kano, and Ado Gwanja’s mother.
Presently, the only testing centre in the state had been shut-down due to unavailability of testing kits and the head of COVID-19 testing centre in the State, Nasiru Magaji confirmed that there is no definite date for its resumption.
