Mind What You Say, Aisha Buhari is Back

Aisha, wife of Nigeria’s President Muhammadu Buhari has been out of the spotlight for months, and absent in several events she ought to have attended, giving room for speculation.

Aisha granted an interview after she arrived at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja in the early hours of Sunday, saying that although she had taken her holiday for this year, she still needed to attend to her health before going to Saudi but based on doctor’s instruction, she went back to the UK.

The last time she was seen in public was at a dinner party on Sunday, June 16th at the Presidential Villa to celebrate the female participants of the Democracy Day parade. Since then, most of her public functions were performed by her representative & Senior Special Assistant- Hajo Sani.
Hajo Sani has represented Aisha Buhari in many events;

Firstly, the inauguration of Ambassador Tijjani Muhammad-Bande as the President of the 74th UN General Assembly, Hajo Sani came with a presentation from the First Lady.

Secondly ,she also represented Aisha at the UN High-Level Meeting on Tuberculosis at the UN Headquarters in New York on Sunday, 22 September. She also held forte as the Global Empowerment Movement, held the Blessings of Africa Iconic Champion of Change Award on 24th September.

On another time, Nigeria’s First Lady was equally absent at The Organization of African First Ladies for Development (OAFLAD) meeting in New York, a body she inspired into existence.

On arrival, Aisha Buhari confirmed the authenticity of the viral video circulating on social media. In the video, the first lady is seen angrily questioning the security detail in the presidential villa that tried to restrict her movement. She however said it was an old video.

The first lady however, has cautioned Nigerians against the scourge of fake news. She promised that she would devote more energy to improving the welfare of women and children.
