Fintiri’s Victory at Tribunal is Victory for the People – PDP

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has described the election petition tribunal’s decision of the Adamawa State governor, Ahmadu Fintiri’s election as a good step in the right direction for democracy.

The publicity secretary of PDP, Kola Ologbondiyan on Monday said it was the confirmation of the people’s will over “manipulative forces”, adding that it was not shocking that the tribunal dismissed the entire petition against Fintiri’s election for lack of merit.

Ologbondiyan said that the verdict marks the beginning of the consolidation of their aspiration for a purposeful, transparent and result-oriented government for greater cohesion and productivity in the state.

“Unarguably, Fintiri was elected because of his manifest patriotism and dedication to duty as already evinced in his zeal towards the development of the state, empowerment of the people as well as peaceful co-existence in the state,“ he added

PARTIES THAT CHALLENGED PDP’s VICTORY IN ADAMAWA STATE

The Adamawa state election petition tribunal sitting in Yola on April 9 received three petitions from All Progressives Congress (APC), Action People’s Party (APP) and Movement for the Restoration and Defence of Democracy (MRDD) filed against PDP governorship candidate in the March 23rd governorship election.

Going by the petition, the tribunal chairman has said that the petitioner failed to prove the case beyond a reasonable doubt by failing to give full proof of the case of over-voting, non-compliance, and irregularities on the re-run of the governorship election.

The judge asserts that the APC petitioner was not consistent in their submissions which has made him disregard the submissions as they were.

The counsel to APC, Ibrahim Efiong however, said that even though their petition has been dismissed, they would request a copy of the judgment and make a decision based on that.

THE ELECTION RE-RUN

The returning officer of INEC, Prof. Andrew Haruna who conducted the Adamawa governorship re-run election on March 28, 2019, declared Fintiri the winner of the election with 376,552 votes defeating the incumbent Gov. Jibrilla Bindow of the All Progressives Congress who got 336,386 votes.

The result was announced in 44 polling units across 14 local government areas of the state.
