EXCLUSIVE – School children Were Never Kidnapped in Delta State – Police

Following Reports that Gunmen on Monday kidnapped four teachers and two children at
Azagba Mixed Secondary School, Isele-Azagba, the Delta State Police spokesperson has
debunked claims that the abductees included school children.

In an exclusive phone interview with Roots Tv Nigeria, DSP Onome Onovwakpoyeya, she
confirmed the kidnap but said the perpetrators were not herdsmen but were of Fulani
ethnicity. She says no cows were seen in the vicinity during the kidnap.

She confirmed the abducted teachers had been rescued as the police were working to get
them arrested although the main priority was to take care of the rescued victims.

Several newspapers had reported that three armed men stormed the school premises in a
black SUV, beat up the security men and tied them up before heading straight to the
classroom where four teachers and two children, said to be of the same parents, were
taken away.

Some dailies had also reported that one of the teachers, who had sustained gunshot
injuries, had died.

Reported eyewitness had said the gunmen shot into the air while holding their abductees,
apparently to prevent any resistance.

The rescued teachers were identified as Mr Isiroro, Mr Okonta, Mr Ifeanyichukwu and the
principal of the school, Mrs Onyeje Bridget.
