Labour Party’s former presidential candidate, Mr. Peter Obi, expressed dismay at the government’s response to Ukraine’s recent donation, labeling it as disappointing in a recent X post.
In his post, he highlighted the contrast between Ukraine’s generosity amidst their conflict with Russia and Nigeria’s reliance on foreign aid despite its abundant human and natural resources.
“While Ukraine’s noble gesture is commendable, it sheds light on our situation as a nation blessed with abundant human and natural resources. A nation embroiled in a severe conflict is offering food aid to us, who are officially at peace,” he remarked.
Obi emphasized the urgent need for good governance and a recalibration of national priorities.
“It is disheartening that our once economically confident nation, blessed with vast arable land and abundant natural resources, now relies on war-torn Ukraine for food.
“This national disgrace stems from years of leadership failure, necessitating urgent reflection and reordering of our national priorities and resource management and allocation.
The former candidate emphasized the importance of investing in key sectors like Agriculture, enhancing security to enable farmers, and supporting small businesses to foster economic growth.
Obi expressed gratitude to the Ukrainian government for their generous donation, hailing it as a testament to their remarkable spirit of solidarity that deserves global recognition.
