Submit COVID-19 Intervention Fund’s report within 72-hour, Reps tell AGF

Lawmakers in the Federal House of Representatives Wednesday issued a 72-hour ultimatum to the Accountant General of the Federation, Oluwatoyin Madein, to submit a detailed report on the use of the N100 billion COVID-19 intervention funds approved and released by the government of Muhammadu Buhari to Ministries, Departments, and Agencies between 2020 and 2022. Chairman, of the House Committee on Public Accounts, Bamidele Salam, who issued the notice expressed dismay at the AGF’s refusal to comply with the resolution of the Committee to submit the report on October 27, 2023.

Appeal Court  Affirms Senator Abba Moro as Winner of Benue South Senate Seat

The Abuja Division of Appeal court on Wednesday affirmed Senator Abba Moro of the People’s Democratic Party as the winner of the February 25 senatorial election for the Benue south senatorial seat. The court held that the appellants, Daniel Onje and his party were unable to prove their case before the court to warrant the nullification of the election. The three-man panel of justice therefore upheld the declaration of Senator Abba Moro as duly elected senator representing the Benue south senatorial seat.The court held that the appellant’s allegations of forgery against the respondent (Moro) were speculative and could not be proven by the appellant.

NLC President Taken Into Protective Custody, Not Arrested -Police

The Imo State Police Command has clarified that they did not arrest the President of the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, Joe Ajaero. In a statement, the police explained that they saved him from a mob attack during a protest rally in Owerri. The statement clarified that the NLC President was in Owerri as part of the Congress’s arrangements to mobilize workers for a mega protest rally in the state. During the planning, there were suggestions to lock down some essential facilities, including the airport, which led to resistance from some workers and individuals. This resistance resulted in scuffles, heated arguments, and an eventual attack on the NLC President by a mob.

EFCC Bans Sting Operations at Night

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC has banned its officials from carrying out sting operations at night. EFCC spokesperson, Dele Oyewale confirmed this in a statement late Wednesday night and said it is in line with the newly-reviewed procedures on the arrest and bail of suspects by the commission. Olukayode gave the directive in Abuja on Wednesday, November 1, 2023, in reaction to the arrest of 69 suspected internet fraudsters by operatives of the Ibadan Zonal of the Commission in Ile-Ife, Osun State.

Israel Army says 16 Soldiers Killed Since Tuesday

Sixteen Israeli soldiers have been killed in fighting since Tuesday in and near the Gaza Strip, the military said, as troops engaged in fierce battles with militants from the Hamas group. The Israeli military keeps a rolling toll on its website, providing the names, ages, and locations of soldiers killed in the ongoing war. Israeli troops have been fighting Hamas militants on the ground in Gaza since Friday, backed by heavy air strikes and artillery, which have killed a vast number of civilians in the Palestinian territory.
