No school was shutdown in Abuja – Police debunk news of planned bandits attack

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has debunked reports that Schools in Abuja, particularly the Nigerian Law School, Veritas University and private schools in the Bwari Area Council, have been shut down over fear of Bandits or Fulani herdsmen attacks.

A senior Police Officer, who spoke to newsmen on Thursday on condition of anonymity, revealed that contrary to reports making rounds in the media, Veritas University has been on vacation after its first session programs were rounded up since May 3, 2021.

The source also said it was the same thing with the Nigerian Law School, adding that before now, security operatives had put various protective strategies in place, especially around all of schools in the FCT.

The senior police officer urged all FCT residents to desist from circulating information capable of causing unnecessary public anxiety and panic.

On the alleged migration of hundreds of Fulani Herdsmen, their families and livestock from Niger State, Zamfara state among others to Bauchi through Abuja, the source said there was no complaint of herdsmen or bandits attack from residents of the FCT.

According to him, security agencies are always vigilant and ready to ensure continuous peace and security for the FCT and its residents.
