Bandits release 27 abducted Kaduna students after 56 days

The bandits, who abducted 39 students from the Federal College of Forestry Mechanization, Afaka, Kaduna State, in March, have released 27 students.

The Chairman of the Committee representing the Forum of Parents of the 39 Abducted Students, Mallam Abdullahi Usman, confirmed this to Roots TV Nigeria on Wednesday.

Daily Trust reports that the release was facilitated by the Sheikh Ahmed Gumi dialogue committee with support from former President Olusegun Obasanjo.

As of the time this report was filed, it was unclear if the released students had reunited with their families.

Recall that 39 students were abducted almost two months ago from the school premises.

Few days later, 10 of the victims were released after payment of ransom by parents and the school management.

The bandits had initially demanded N500 million as ransom from the Kaduna State Government but Governor Nasir El-Rufai ruled out the option of negotiation, saying bandits deserved to be killed.
