President Tinubu Declares April 7 as National Police Day

During the inaugural Nigeria Police Awards and Commendations ceremony at the Transcorp Hilton, Abuja, on Monday night, Vice President Kashim Shettima, representing President Tinubu, emphasized the importance of redefining the institutional mindset and memory of police officers for the ongoing transformation of the force into a modern, professional, and accountable institution.

The administration, which took office in 2023, has implemented extensive reforms to rejuvenate the country’s police force. The Vice President highlighted the need for continuous training and capacity building for police personnel to ensure they possess the necessary skills for modern policing.

In addition, the Federal Government has designated the first week of April as Police Week and the final day of the week, April 7th, as National Police Day in Nigeria, to honor the police force’s contributions to the nation’s security.

Vice President Shettima acknowledged the police force’s crucial role in maintaining national security during challenging times, stating that the citizens’ resilience in the face of security threats is a testament to the police force’s unwavering commitment.
