Binance Executive Arrested in Kenya, Faces Extradition to Nigeria

Kenyan police have reportedly apprehended Nadeem Anjarwalla, an executive of Binance, a cryptocurrency platform, who had fled Nigeria during the government’s crackdown to bolster the naira. Anjarwalla had escaped from custody in Nigeria and was later traced to Kenya.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), the International Criminal Police, the Nigeria Police Force (NPF), and the Kenyan Police Service have been collaborating to extradite Anjarwalla. The EFCC had announced plans to extradite the Binance chief in its March bulletin.

Anjarwalla, a British and Kenyan citizen and Binance’s Africa Regional Manager, was facing trial in Nigerian courts for tax evasion, currency speculation, and money laundering to the tune of $35,400,000. He was under a 14-day remand order by a court but escaped while awaiting his next appearance on April 4, 2024.

The Nigerian government has intensified its crackdown on Binance, and Anjarwalla was one of the cryptocurrency chiefs arrested during this period.
