The Senate issued a directive on Thursday, instructing the Police Service Commission and the Nigeria Police Force to enlist at least 10 candidates from each of Nigeria’s 774 local government councils.
This directive, the Senate stated, should be included in their annual recruitment procedures.
The decision was made following a motion put forward by Senator Emmanuel Udende Memga, representing Benue North East, highlighting the importance of the Police Service Commission and the Nigeria Police Force adhering to the Federal Character Principle in the recruitment of constables.
The Senate mandated the Committees on Police Affairs and Legislative Compliance to ensure full compliance.
