The Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, has announced that the federal government has released N12.7 billion from the N40 billion earmarked for a mass metering project to provide meters in Army barracks nationwide.
The metering exercise, which is part of President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, aims to ensure regular electricity supply to army formations and eliminate estimated billing.
The smart meters installed are tamper-proof and will enable customers to track their consumption monthly. The project will also include building off-grid power sources, such as solar energy, for barracks located in remote areas without grid supply.
The second phase of the project will begin simultaneously in Abuja and Enugu, benefiting military formations across the 11 Distribution Companies (DisCos).
