FG Installs Biometric Clearance Gates at International Airports

The Federal Government has finalized arrangements to install biometric clearance gates for the Nigeria Immigration Service at various international airports across the country.

These gates are slated to be operational at the airports by March 2024. The designated international airports for the installation of these facilities include the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos, Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja, Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport, Port Harcourt International Airport, and Akanu Ibiam International Airport in Enugu.

Once operational, these gates will streamline the clearance process for passengers entering the country through any of these international airports.

During an inspection visit to the Abuja international airport on Monday, the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, disclosed that Lagos would have 17 gates, Abuja 10, while Port Harcourt and Kano would each receive five gates, and Enugu four.

He further emphasized that these facilities would significantly enhance the effectiveness and efficiency of managing international passengers in the country.

Tunji-Ojo remarked, “I am impressed by the progress and speed of work observed here today. The facilities are approximately 70 percent completed. This indicates that our border control management system is on course. It also underscores the readiness of the Nigeria Immigration Service to contribute to the National Security Architecture.”
