Former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria CBN, Godwin Emefiele, has formally requested compensation of N25 billion from Senate President Godswill Akpabio.
The request, communicated through Emefiele’s counsel, Matthew Burkaa, is based on allegations of defamation stemming from Akpabio’s recent criticisms of Emefiele’s tenure at the CBN. Emefiele is also seeking a public apology from Akpabio for remarks regarding the economic challenges faced by Nigerians, which Akpabio attributed to measures taken during Emefiele’s time in office.
Akpabio, in a statement made in Port-Harcourt on Sunday, said that the allegations against Emefiele are so numerous that the federal government does not know which charges to pin on him.
