FCT Minister Issues Stern Warning to Ground Rent DefaultersĀ 

Minister of the FCT, Nyesom Wike,, has issued a stern warning to defaulters on their ground rent payments in the FCT to promptly settle their outstanding liabilities. He vowed that after a grace period, he would take decisive action by revoking the plots of non-compliant individuals. The minister reiterated this stance during separate meetings with the President of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Chris Isiguzo, and the Canadian High Commissioner to Nigeria, James Chrisoff in Abuja. He emphasized that his statements should not be mistaken for mere bravado, locally referred to as ‘initial gra-gra.’ He urged defaulters to take the ultimatum seriously, as consequences would follow once the grace period expires.

Nigerian Armed Forces Assure Violence-Free Elections in Kogi, Imo, and Bayelsa

The Nigerian Armed Forces have declared their readiness to ensure peaceful elections in Kogi, Imo, and Bayelsa next month. Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, issued a stern warning to political actors, cautioning them against any acts of violence, emphasizing that those who incite violence will face the consequences imposed by the military. General Musa conveyed this message during the maiden official visit of the Minister of Defence, Alhaji Badaru, and the Minister of State for Defence, Bello Mattawale, to the military high command. He stressed that the armed forces are well-prepared for the upcoming elections in these three states, with a strong commitment to facilitating a democratic process free from fear or intimidation.

Chief Edwin Clark Calls for Amendment of NDDC Act to Remove Non-Niger Delta States

Chief Edwin Clark, the Leader of the Pan Niger Delta Forum PANDEF, has urged President Bola Tinubu to initiate the amendment of the 2000 Act that established the Niger Delta Development Commission NDDC. He proposes the removal of non-Niger Delta oil-producing states, including Abia, Imo, and Ondo, from the nine states constituting the NDDC. The nine states currently encompassed by the NDDC are Ondo, Edo, Delta, Bayelsa, Rivers, Imo, Abia, Cross River, and Akwa Ibom. Chief Clark deems the inclusion of the three non-Niger Delta states as a political anomaly that should be rectified. Clark suggested that the NDDC should be reserved for the original six Niger Delta coastal states, while other oil-producing states should establish their independent relationships with oil companies and the Nigerian government.
