Blame Governors for High Poverty Level – FG to Nigerians

The federal government has blamed the the high level of poverty in the country on state governors.

While briefing correspondents, on Wednesday, at the end of the weekly meeting of the Federal Executive Council (FEC), the Minister of State for Budget and National Planning, Clement Agba, who made the assertion, declared that 72% of the poverty in Nigeria is found in the rural areas, which he said had been abandoned by governors.

He said governors pay more attention to building flyovers and airports rather than improvement of life in the rural areas.

According to him, the governors prefer to function in the state capitals, as the federal government on its part hasput forth a valiant effort to mitigate poverty.

The minister pointed out that while states are in charge of lands for agriculture, they do not invest in them for a desired effect on their rural citizens.

He, accordingly, requested that Nigerians consider the governors responsible while encouraging the state CEOs to zero in on drives that can raise individuals from the pits of poverty.
