A student at the Federal University, Dutse, Jigawa State, Aminu Adamu, who was accused of criticising the wife of the president on Twitter, has not been found despite reports that security personnel arrested him regarding the accusation.
The presidency has not addressed the matter. According to reports Adamu was arrested by operatives of the Department of State Services and men of the Nigeria Police Force and transported to Abuja.
The DSS has also not spoken on the issue.
As of the time of filing tis report, efforts to reach the Force PRO, CSP Muyiwa Adejobi, proved abortive, as he was unavailable.
Meanwhile, a human rights lawyer, Femi Falana (SAN), said those holding Aminu were committing a crime because the student was being deprived of the right to a lawyer.
The Northern Nigeria Human Rights Advocates, in a statement signed by its Secretary, A.A. Hikima, called on “all persons and authorities involved in the arbitrary arrest and detention of Mr Aminu to release him immediately and issue him an apology and compensation.”
The President of the National Association of Nigerian Students, Usman Barambu, apologised to Aisha and called for the release of the victim.
