Human Rights Activist Arrested for Brutalizing Police Orderly in Abuja

Police in the Federal Capital Territory have arrested Professor Dike Zainab for allegedly assaulting her orderly, Inspector Peju Moses on Wednesday in the Garki district of Abuja.

A team led by the FCT Police Commissioner, Sunday Babaji arrested the Legal practitioner and human rights activist, Prof. Zainab Duke Abiola on Thursday morning in her residence alongside her domestic staff, Rebecca  Enechido and a male suspect currently at large.

In a viral video, the orderly was seen sitting on a floor, with part of her face and uniform covered with blood stains, weeping in excruciating pain, and also calling her superior on the phone to be taken to the hospital for proper treatment.

Narrating her ordeal in an interview, Inspector Moses said the provocation was a result of her refusal on running menial and domestic errands like opening the house gate under the rain, washing her car or signing court documents on the professor’s behalf.

She also stated that the Professor had on several occasions threatened to use her connection with the Inspector General of Police, IGP Usman Alkali Baba  and his wife to ensure her sack from the force.

Reacting to the incident, the Inspector General of Police, while condemning the act has directed an express prosecution of the arrested suspects. He also charged the investigative team to ensure they arrest the fleeing suspect and made him face the wrath of the law.

He stated this in a statement released on Thursday the 22nd of September, 2022, by the Force Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi.

All police personnel attached to the Professor has also been withdrawn over violation of the rights of a police  officer tasked with ensuring her protection.
