Nnamdi Kanu’s trial begins today, journalists barred from entering court

The trial of the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, resumed on Monday before a Federal High Court in Abuja.

Kanu is being tried by the Federal Government on charges of treasonable felony.

Recall that Nnamdi Kanu, who had initially jumped bail and fled abroad, was re-arrested by security agents in Kenya and repatriated back to Nigeria.

Justice Binta Nyako fixed July 26 and 27 for the trial.

On Monday morning, the Federal High Court released a list of selected media houses accredited to cover Kanu’s trial.

Only 10 media houses were permitted into the Court. It was also gathered that operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) prevented some lawyers from attending the trial.

The DSS operatives were said to have blocked the entrance of the Federal High Court, stopping persons, including IPOB members from gaining access into the court.

Some of the lawyers were upset and spoke against the act.

In the same vein, Yoruba Nation activist, Sunday Igboho, will appear before a court in Benin Republic today.
