President Muhammadu Buhari has appointed Major-General Farouk Yahaya as the new Chief of Army Staff (COAS).
This was announced in a statement signed and released on Thursday by the Acting Director of Defence Information, Brigadier-General Onyema Nwachukwu.
Yahaya replaces the deceased Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Ibrahim Attahiru, who died in a plane crash on Saturday, May 21, 2021.
Before his appointment, Yahaya was the General Officer Commanding 1 Division of the Nigerian Army and the theatre commander of a military counter-terrorism unit in the North East code-named Operation HADIN KAI.
