Abducted Benue students regain freedom

Students of the Federal University of Agriculture in Makurdi, Benue State, who were kidnapped by unknown gunmen last Saturday, have been released.

The University’s Director of Information, Protocol and Public Relations, Rosemary Waku, disclosed in a statement that the students were returned to the school campus on Tuesday.

The released students were identified as Israel Farren Kwaghgee and Solomon Salihu.

However, as of the time this report was filed, it was unclear if a ransom was paid before the students were released.

Recall that the kidnappers had reportedly contacted one of the parents of the students and demanded N20 million ransom.

Catherine Anene, the spokesperson for the state Police Command, also confirmed that the students have been released.

She said, “Kidnapped students of the University of Agriculture have been released unhurt. Investigation into the case continues please.”
