WAEC appoints new chairman

The Governing Board of the West African Examinations Council, WAEC, has elected Professor Ato Essuman from Ghana as its new Chairman.

Essuman was appointed as the 20th chairman of WAEC following the 69th Annual Meeting of the Governing Board, succeeding Baboucarr Bouy from The Gambia, who was elected in March 2018.

His tenure is for a period of three years from March 2021 to March 2024 in line with the Council’s Convention.

Ghana hosted the 69th meeting of WAEC’s governing board this year; the 70th Meeting will be hosted by Nigeria in March 2022.

In a statement issued by WAEC Head of Public Affairs in Ghana, Abiodun Aduloju, the 69th meeting, which held online from March 22-26, 2021, was declared open by the President and Commander-In-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Ghana, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.
