Fallout From Appeal Court Ruling: Ajimobi Replaces Oshiomhole in Acting Capacity

The Ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has appointed former Governor of Oyo State and Deputy Chairman of the APC (South), Abiola Ajimobi, as its acting national chairman. This was contained in a statement released by the APC National Publicity Secretary, Lanre Issa-Onilu, on Tuesday night.

The statement reads,  “Guided by advice from the party’s legal department in line with the provisions of section of section 14.2. (iii) of the party’s constitution, the Deputy National Chairman (South), Sen. Abiola Ajimobi will serve as the Party’s Acting National Chairman,”

“According to Section 14.2. (iii),of the APC constitution, the Deputy National Chairman, North/South “Shall act as the National Chairman in the absence of the National Chairman from his zone.”

The appointment followed the suspension of Adams Oshiomhole as chairman of the party by the Court of Appeal in Abuja on Tuesday.

In the judgment delivered by Justice Mohammed Lamido, the panel dismissed Oshiomhole’s appeal for lacking in merit.

A Federal High Court sitting in FCT had in March ordered the suspension of Oshiomhole as chairman of the APC. The suspension was lifted at first, after the appellate Court granted a stay of execution of the high court’s order.

Now, the appeal court has ruled that Oshiomhole’s suspension is valid.

It is unclear how the recently appointed acting national chairman of the ruling party will execute his duties effectively given his alleged Covid-19 status.
