NDDC Controversy Deepens As Police Storm ex-MD’s Residence Just Before She Is Due To Appear Before A Senate Probe Panel

Operatives of the Nigerian Police Thursday morning stormed the Port Harcourt residence of Joy Nunieh, the former managing director of the interim management committee of the Niger Delta Development Commission- NDDC. She was due to appear before a senate panel investigating allegations of mismanagement and diversion of funds in the agency.

The security agents arrived at the ex-MD’s home located at 3, Owuru Creek view, off Herbert Macaulay Street, Old GRA, Port Harcourt, Rivers state, at around 4 am on Thursday.

According to media reports credited to the embattled former MD who has been having a running media war with the minister Niger Delta affairs and former governor of Akwa Ibom State, Godswill Akpabio, she noticed the presence of several men at her gate in the wee hours of Thursday morning and sent her girl to find out what the matter was, she (the girl) reported that the police officers at the gate had requested to take her, (Nunieh) to the station.

”I said this morning? What if they come and shoot me at 5:00, I am not following anybody.”

Akpabio and Nunieh had appeared before the senate ad hoc panel investigating the alleged mismanagement of N40 billion by the interim management committee of the NDDC.

At the hearing, Akpabio said he did not know the expenditure of the NDDC under Nunieh because she refused to give him briefings.

However, Nunieh said the minister engineered her removal for failing to dance to his tunes and made other damaging allegations against the minister.

She accused Akpabio of making sexual advances at her, budget padding, fraud, among others. Nunieh also alleged that Akpabio was awarded 30 contracts before she became the commission’s acting MD.
